Houston, TX - help needed w/'89 740GLE - depends on which engine

Hello from another Houstonian (well, in Cypress)

I am a 240 guy, so I am not sure of which engine your car has. Could be a PRV V-6, or the Volvo I-4 with DOHC and 16 valves, maybe an I-4 turbo.

The V-6 is probably the B28 or B280, either of which is a whole 'nother animal.

The 1-6 16 valve engine is the B234F. That one is an interference engine, meaning that if the timing belt fails the valves will impact the pistons with an unknown ampount of engine damage.

The 4-cylinder turbo it the B230FT engine, it is non-interference.

If a B230F or B230FT, and the damage is due to overheating, it likely can be repaired with a head rebuild.

Come back to us with the engine specs, lotsa help here on the BB, some of it even "in town".

Good Luck,

Bob
