RARE clutch problem (but aggravating!) 120-130

There is another, rarer but more aggravating problem that I have had that
was NOT hydraulic in nature. I was in Panamá at the time (a long time) and
had got a clutch plate from the local rebuilders for a bargain price. Turned
out it was for a BMW rather than a 122 and eventually it developed a very
annoying symptom: Sitting at a slightly uphill traffic light the car would
roll back a bit and I would let up the clutch very slightly to pull back
forward. The clutch would start to engage and pushing the clutch pedal back
in would NOT disengage it. The only way I could make it disengage was to
grab the gearshift and jerk it into neutral. Continued through months and
I did a lot of checks and hydraulic fixes to no avail. Turned out the clutch
plate had a "wear indicator" button on it that would drag on the flywheel to
make a noise, but it would cock the clutch plate slightly on the input shaft
and as long as there was a torsional load on the plate, it would not let go.
Jerking it into neutral released the torsional load and restored everything
to normal operation. I finally pulled the tranny and disassembled the clutch,
found the button and removed it with a cutoff wheel on a Dremel Moto-tool and
the problem never recurred.
