engine flush? 700 1990

Flushing the cooling system...avoid chemical flushes... Every other year I do a fresh water flush... I start and run the engine until it gets to operating temp...shut it down and drain and flush...three times to ensure that any contaminants 'hiding' in the heater core or elsewhere are given ample opportunity to be flushed out... On the final, I install a new thermostat and gasket and fill with coolant...

I once used a chemical flush and ended up replacing my water pump soon afterwards...not what I would classify as a fun-filled weekend... At 250,000 miles I replaced the radiator (the top plastic neck actually fell apart in my hand), heater control valve (it also fell apart in my hand), fan and fan clutch...

Flushing engine oil... DO NOT use additives or 'commercial' flushes... Breaking loose contaminants may clog the oil sump pickup screen and you'll experienc serious issues with the flow of oil... In lieu of 'one-time' flushes...change the oil & filter every 300-500 miles for 1000-1500 miles... Plus your turbo will like you! I take it to Wal-Mart...with my own oil & filter and a tire rotation costs me about $12...cheap insurance! PS...I use Havoline 10W40 and Fram filters (if I can get them; if not OEM from FCP)
