I tried cleaning and lubricating---sprayed the pivot point and both ends of the spring with penetrating oil, and worked it back and forth repeatedly. It was a bit stiff, now it moves freely. While doing this made a noticeable improvement, it did not cure the problem completely. There is still an unwiped area at the top of the arc, now only 1"-1 1/2", down from 4"
