One thing that you get with a Volvo filter is a new "gasket" or copper washer for the plug.

I got my last filters on ebay $35 for 10 plus shipping. FCP Groton sells them.

The same filter fits (almost) all Volvos from the PV 544 to the 850 (Probably early S & V models also). Be sure to get a copper washer for red (steel) engines and an aluminum washer for white (aluminum) engines.

BTW a filter at a dealer is not really expensive, and you can usually get a discount if you buy more than one.
