NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR REAR WHEEL DRIVE VOLVO!!!
As far as fixing it yourself; that depends on the size of your package.
If you are timid around these things then let someone else have at it. If you are like me and can afford to have the car down for a little while (I will just have to drive the Tuesday car on Thursday also, ho humm) then tackle it yourself. If you are in the Baltimore area; I am single so am rather free and would love to help you solve your problem!
If you aren't in the Baltimore area:
1. start the car and start wiggling wiring harnesses. eventually something will short and turn the motor off. You might be able to hear/ see where the short is. Stick a volt meter on the coil for good measure (simple stuff first.)
2. car cuts off due to gravity pulling on something; therefore jacking up one side of the car will simulate going around a corner. From there start running down stuff to see what isn't' working. (volt meter and helpful assistant comes into play here!)
If you are in the Baltimore area (or any of the rest of you all are) drop me a line spencera12@yahoo.com I would love to fix some cars and drown a few beers with those that don't think driving a 20 year old rear wheel drive car is unusual!!!
