Duane -

MCs that I have replaced due to failed never exhibited a soft pedal. It was always the pedal sinking slowly under light pressure, and a firm pedal under heavy pressure - indicating a fluid bypass problem.

Any chance that you have a leaky junction block? Air allowed in there.
