My 71 142e had a charging problem. I found the voltage regulator to be a crazy mechanical device that was corroded and rusted inside. I went to a foreign parts store and requested one. The item I received was solid state in nature and bolted right in. The instructions provided were easy. It was not adjustable, but at least the thing is not mechanical. Drop me a line if you want me to pull the part number off of the thing.
