Back in about 1969 or 70 I was working at Kelly AFB in San Antonio and driving
old Blue, a slightly modified B16 544. In those days the Texas inspection law
concerned with the exhaust system was all about leaks. I had a long straight
pipe (bends but no muffler) and at certain speeds (12 mph in bottom gear) it
REALLY resonated - backing off from about 14 mph it would go through a phase
where it sounded like it was pulling the whole pipe into the engine - almost
like a Jake Brake on a big truck. My route home passed between a couple fairly
large hangars on base and the speed limit was 15 mph. The base police were
always hoping to catch me speeding there but never did. It would be a pretty
heavy line of slow-moving traffic and I managed to stay right in line.

Re the Inshornce - here if you get a ticket for expired insurance/no verification you can take the verification to the police station and show
it to them. If the policy was in effect at the time you were stopped the
charges are dismissed. Happened to Ben a couple weeks ago. But it is indeed
easier if you have it with you.
