How hard is it pull a Hall effect distributor? 200 1986

My 86 240 has a "004" distributor. Water was leaking from the upper rad hose onto the dist connector and I didn't have spark. I tried very carefully to disconnect the 3 wire plug - The cheap ass dist connector broke off along with the tiny red wire (while carefully holding it in place). The new cap button was grounded off by the new rotor which had to be broken off to remove.

The closest dist I could find was a "001" off a 85 in the yard - $30. It came out with a 13mm socket. The rotor is a different style and it too was also grinding away at the cap and red plastic was everywhere. It turned fine. Got home and a spring was floating around inside. It appears you have to remove the drive gear to get the pickup out (broke the dist tring a "easier" way, the pickup wheel is permanently mounted to the shaft). Money wasted.

I now have to solder the tiny wire back on, epoxy the connector back to the dist, and buy another cap and rotor. Then on to the next problem.

These distributors are crap! This car has been very unreliable since I got it.
