Having had an 83 245 with manual trans, which had a cable clutch, did Volvo actually put a hydraulic clutch in that early?? First I know of a hydraulic clutch is the 700's a cou[le of years later when they introduced that series.

But then again, I'm the OD guy, not a trans guy.

If the OD worked before it went to the shop, then it should work when it came back. Get the car up enough safely so you can crawl under the drivers side to get to the rear of the transmission.

With the car safely supported, and: Ignition on, engine OFF, in 4th gear with OD dash light on, there should be 12 volts a the solenoid on the left side of the OD. If you remove the yellow wire, the solenoid should click off and if you add the wire the solenoid should click back on. That indicates voltage present.

At 50k on the odometer, ther should be nothing wrong with the OD other than low fluid or just stuck in place if not driven for a while.

To unstick: Find some place safe to drive about 80kph, and be able to disegage the clutch, increase engiine to about 5000 RPM and release clutch suddenly. This may have to be done a few times to release the sliding member from the trans shaft. If the OD engages after one of these, continue to drive and engage/disegage the OD about 20 to 25 times. this will polish the trans shaft surface and aloow the sliding member to move easily.
