You should be fine. Just need to address the areas of neglect and it won't let you down.
Identifying the areas of neglect, however...
Start with the brakes. Better to be able to stop and not go than the other way around.
Get three point seat belts in it. Check the floor pans for rust. Make sure your carb's are in good order.

What is the history of the car? Has it been a driver or sitting?
We all enjoy working on these cars vicariously so fill us in on the details and we might be able to save you some time or a tow. But they are very simple and sturdy cars and a blast to drive when everything is sorted out.
