Standard problem on these cars. It's a bad vacuum servo on the drivers' side (vacuum leak). If you look in the FAQ's and perform a search you will find both instructions on how to fix this (a pain) and/or a quick, cheap bypass with a golf tee in the yellow vacuum line.
