If it is both the speedometer and the odometer that aren't working, it may be the gear in the tranny that is gone. (If it is just the odometer, then it's probably a replaceable gear in the instument cluster missing a tooth or losing its grip.)

Disconnect the cable at the cluster and while driving slowly (and safely), reach under and feel the tip of the cable for movement. If it isn't moving then it's either the cable or the gear.
