I liked the look of the stock wheel on my '66 but found the grip thin, hard and uncomfortable after an hour or so of driving. Of course it is so large in diameter that there don't seem to be any off-the-shelf covers to fit it. I ended up going to a rubber supply place and getting some foam rubber tube (I think it was a pipe insulation) and then ordering a 'wheelskins' leather cover to fit over it. A little tedious lacing up the leather, but I got to keep the stock wheel and now have a fat and comfortable grip.
Not specifically answering your inquiry, but an option to consider.
