Barry, I've been using regular 1157s. However, I've gotten high-efficiency alternates for some customer cars from Daniel Stern -- no increase in wattage, but quite a bit brighter.

If you haven't already done so, spray the socket plates with chrome paint. That brightens things up considerably.
