The lights you choose depend on precedence of three considerations:
Originality, price, and light output. If you want lights that could have been installed in the mid-sixties your choices are Dietz, Hella, Cibie, and Lucas. I'm sure there were other brands used; those are just the ones I am familiar with. All lights from that time period will be sealed beam. Most were 6-7" in diameter. Of these, the Lucas SLR576 driving light and the SFT576 fog light are among the most likely to have been installed "back then". They come up for auction on eBay quite often. Hella and Cibie also made 4" (or maybe 4 and 1/2") lights that many Porsche 912 owners chose. I've seen photos of 4" amber fog lights mounted on the 122S Yankee bar along side a 7" driving light.
If price is your first consideration, with maintaining an original appearance a close second, Hella or Cibie halogen lights made in 80's and 90's kept the traditional pod light form. To my knowledge, neither company is currently making a lamp that would look like it belongs on the front of an older car.
If price outweighs all other considerations, there are dozens and dozens of Chinese made lights available. These are smaller diameter lights, usually about 5" across using halogen bulbs. Quality and lighting ability in line with pricing, of course.
If light output is your major concern, modern lights from Hella or Cibie will fit the bill. If money is no object, KC Hilites is making a set of round HID lamps that wouldn't look too bad on the Amazon. Even though off-road and rally lights might be attractive for sheer candlepower, state troopers recognize "off-road only" lights when they see them and will give you a ticket for using them on their road.
Regardless of which lights you choose, behind the grille is not a good place to mount auxilliary lighting. Use the bumper (or brackets) as a solid foundation for mounting. Set driving lights as high as you can and fog lights as low as you dare.
