I believe the ones with the mark are the TOP ball joints - sort of hat-shaped
top, while the lower one is gently rounded. The hat shaped one goes on top
and the mark needs to be pointed toward the engine because the main travel
of that joint is lateral as the spindle works up and down relative to the
rest of the car. If the joints are Q-H brand, be sure and check that they
have plenty of grease in them. OEM joints are better.
