White smoke? Are you sure it is white? The color is important. Fluids burn with unique colors. White would lead me to check the coolant level and look for leaks. With so much smoke that you would call it a huge plume there has to be low fluid level somewhere. Check them all. Once you determine which fluid(s) are being burned, then you can look for the cause.
