Shocks and struts for the DYI S90-V90 1999

Noting the OP has a S70. He must've accidentally posted in this forum. That being said, I did the shocks/struts on my 850 which is basically the same thing.

The rears are easy. You have to remove the floor boards in the cargo area to access the shock mount, but it's easy aside from that. I would replace the shock mounts as the rubber in them goes bad and can tear though.

The fronts however are more difficult because they require the use of a spring compressor. My suggestion is removing the assemblies from the car and bringing them to a shop to have the struts replaced. Shouldn't cost much to have them do this. There is nothing "odd" about the way the struts are mounted in this car. There are 2 nuts/bolts holding it to the spindle. Disconnect the swaybar link, brake hose holder and I think the ABS sensor too. Then undo the nuts at the top under the hood and it should all come out. Easy peasey.

I would suggest, and take me seriously as I made this mistake the first time on my 850. Buy new bump stops and upper spring seats. The bump stops on these cars usually rot and crumble by this time. If you don't put new ones on, it will end up tearing the rubber on the spring seats. Which are also a common failure point on these cars. I had to do this TWICE because I didn't buy bump stops the first time and wrecked 2 sets of seats.

I would also suggest Monroe Sensa-tracks. For the price they cant be beat. We just put a set on my friend's Saab 9-3 and the ride and handling is fantastic.
