stick with what Volvo recommends. The O/D can be sensitive. Definitely don't mess with the tranny fluid.

As for the rear... that rear end will last 1/2-1 million miles fine using gear oil. 80-90 weight. If you have limited slip, use an additive for that.

If you're just wanting to feel good and spend money, change the fluids every 25k miles or so. But use the stock stuff. It's worked fine thus far, and will continue to do so.
