new to the volvo's 140-160 1971

The two piece shaft holds up just fine on 140s used for SCCA racing, provided you use the one with the big U joints.

The average car has a lot less torque from the engine, less gear reduction in the transmission, and most importantly, a lot less angularity of the driveshaft than a lifted 4X4.
