With laptops the numeric keypad is often emulated by holding down a function key and using a certain portion of the keyboard. Alternatively, under windows, you can open the Character Map tool which is often found under Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools. This tool allows you to view all of the available characters for each font you have on your system. It also allows you to copy and past specially encoded characters that you would normally need to enter with special key combinations/sequences.
