You need to flush the system as that old growler was tossing shavings into the system. Follow the instructions that come with the compressor on oil type. You will have to replace the receiver dryer and seriously consider replacing the expansion valve, in particular with a R-134 rated part rather than the stock part.
The flush is a must, after that, assemble the system, oil it up and vacuum it down for 1/2 hour. Make sure it holds vacuum for a while, then it is time to charge the system with R-134A.
Adding an electric cooling fan in front of the condenser (behind grill) is highly recommended to improve performance.
