How should fast idle function? 200 1986

My 1989 with the LH 2.4 system only has a fast idle for about 2 to 5 seconds when it is below 30 degrees fahrenheit. I imagine this could vary 5-10 degrees from car to car, but that has been my experience. Also the colder it gets the longer the fast idle lasts. At 15 degrees fahrenheit, it stays high for about 5 seconds. At 30 degrees, about 2 seconds. I have not owned my 89 long enough to know how it will act at 10 below zero! Hope that helps.
