Good Day Folks,
Our Volvos have been running well for the past several months but today we have a problem,. My daughter just called from Vermont to say that her '92 740 (no turbo) wagon (with 198,000 miles) is overheating. She says it was steaming and when she let it cool down and refilled the reservoir it appeared to overheat again. She says the electric cooling fan (the ONLY fan, there is no engine driven fan) does not come on and both upper and lower hoses are hot. I hate to think that it might be a head gasket, but the lack of cooling fan has me puzzled. Is there a relay for this and where? Are these prone to water pump failures, or head gasket problems? I am in a bit of a bind here as she is 200 miles away but as we are planning to head off that way tomorrow a I wpould like to have an idea of what / where to look provided I don't have to pull the head.
I have already down loaded and printed the FAQ section on cooling fans and water pump maladies.
