Ignition - Almost 444-544 1958

Sorry about the "blank" message.

Tony, the distributor has the job of turning and giving the spark to the right plug wire. It has a very simple job and in europe these are referred to as a "Dizzy" . you have a B16 so I am going to give you exact directions but rather simple setup descriptions.

1) set the crank to top dead center. This means line up the crank with the timing mark. At this point you have a 50-50 chance of it being right for either #1 or #4 (piston will be "up" but it is "up" twice per cycle.

2) look inside the distributor (under the cap) and note where the rotor is pointing and then look at which plug wire it is pointing at...it should be number one cylinder.

3)set the firing order from this location by placing the correct plug wire to the corresponding spark plug (#1 to #1 etc)

4) crank it up and start the motor. Leave the dizzy a little loose and rotate it a little until it starts.

If it doesn't start change the plug wires 1-4 and 2-3... check the firing order again and start up the motor. ( yes rotating a the dizzy is ok.)

If it still doesn't start ... I would check the valve gap and make sure it is right and is set when each cylinder is in the right position.

Christopher
