Unable to lock steering and remove ignition key 1994

Purchased a 94 944T today with a couple of problems that includes a steering column that won't lock making it impossible to remove the key.

The key stops just short of the position that would allow the steering lock to engage and enable the removal of the key.

Has anyone had a problem like this and found a solution they can share?
