I bought the Bendix rebuild kit for under $10. Everything was exactly the same as the old parts I removed from the MC.

In these cases where you end up with more pieces than you expected, go back to the parts house and ask to see the exploded diagram that should be in their computer database.

I'm at home right now, and the Volvo and factory manuals are at Dad's place - so I can't look at the books to help you out with your mystery piece.
