Using the proper fuses 200

Yes, the brass/copper fuses definitely are better.

I harvest them from junkers whenever I'm at the yard. I'm not knocking the kit of new ones, just mentioning a good alternative for the penny pinchers among us.

As for why the car would run better - - -
The fuel pumps are fused so they definitely will run better with good conductivity there. I'd think that consistent fuel pressure from the main pump would be essential for a smooth running engine.

Did you also clean the 25A fuse in the white holder that's rearward from the battery? The last year for that fuse was '90 or '91, after that the function was relocated to the main fuse panel.
