Dash light pointers? 200 1989

Can ANYONE give me some pointers on getting the dash lights to work?
So far I've:
* replaced all little bulbs
* tried to bypass the rehostat thingy
* checked the fuse and cleaned its contacts.
I'm about go get a little light and tape it to the little shelf in front of the instrument panel so my daughter can at least see the gas and temperature gauges.

I swear I could take an instrument panel out blind-folded at this point.
