Pop off the shift lock button (the button you press to release the shift-lever lock). Pry out the OD button and disconnect the wires. Push them back in. Pull up on the knob itself.

Potential problems: if you pry too hard on the lock-release button you can break the base - especially when it's cold; I try to pry gently on both sides. If the OD wire gets stuck you can rip the end off.

When in a hurry I've broken buttons so that's the place to be careful.
