Does it look like the bulb on this page?
PN 277747

That bulb inserts into a cap which is then installed into the back of the instrument panel.

Genuine Classic Parts lists two numbers for that bulb; 277747 or 942327. They are both wedge type bulbs, size 2.1x 4.9 (T-1¾). One is slightly brighter than the other. Either should work. It is a Type 74 bulb. It should be readily available anywhere automotive bulbs are sold. If your bulb is significantly different, maybe it was replaced with the wrong bulb?
