As others have suggested, if your engine is really quiet and you don't hear that typical sewing machine-like sound of valve ticking, you may have valve seat recession or your valves may be adjusted too tight. I don't want to alarm you, but it may be wise to check your valve lash. It should be around .018". Read about valve adjustment in the BB archives and on www.vclassics.com. A well-tuned B18, even without the modest mods here suggested and with the Weber down-draft, should not feel like a sluggard.
