B16b ignition timing 444-544

You weren't too far advanced if the vacuum was still connected!
If I were you I would set it like Phil says, with the vac disconnected and
idle adjusted slow, then reconnect the vacuum and readjust the idle and see
what it shows. In the future, set it to that spec with the vac connected to
save setting and resetting the idle.
B16s are (I think) even more sensitive to overheated exhaust from retarded ignition
than are B18, B20 and B30. I burned the exhaust pipe off my first B16b (544)
about 40 years ago by not having the ignition advanced enough. Lucky I didn't
crack the exhaust manifold too!
