Low power when cold 700 1990

I use 15w40 Rotella. Here is what I am thinking now. In the morning when it is cold, the engine is turning 2500 RPMs but the car is really going slow. Seems like when it is warm the car goes considerably faster.

This makes me think transmission slip but it doesn't feel like it's slipping. The fluid looks fine and does not smell bad.

Any other ideas???
