Yes, the 85's have this abomination too. I did a modification to my air box before installing the new AMM. I removed the air box, and found that the flapper was open to the hot air tube, and closed to the fresh air port. The flapper was free to move, but it was 88 degrees here in Florida today, and you would have thought that the temperature would have been sufficient to at least have the flapper partially closed. So, I drilled a couple of holes in the flapper, and the air box (prior to the filter) and used a wire tie to hold the flapper closed to the heat stove pipe, and fully open to the cold air side. Then to make sure that the heat does not seep past the closed flapper, I installed a pipe plug in the hot inlet side of the air box tube. this effectively seals the box, and isolates it from the heat tube. I believe that this should close the book on the hot air supply tube for me. I had the entire air inlet system out of the car, and did a thorough job of cleaning on it.
Looking at the tube that goes behind the headlight, it would seem that there is some serious restriction there. I wonder what would happen if I were to do a modification to this, "Snorkel", and cut it down to it's largest diameter? Any thoughts on this?
