5spd options for 122s? 120-130

shortening the drive shaft and replacing the 4 speed with an overdrive transmission is the easiest way to go, in my opinion. i did the operation on my 122, and it was a major, major improvement. not that expensive either. you can pick up a j-type overdrive transmission for a couple hundred bucks, find a good machinist to chop and reweld the drive shaft, and you're good to go. OD drops the revs substantially, saving you gas, or alternately, allowing you to cruise faster on the freeways. of course, once you get up to 70 or 80, you'll begin to notice that the 122 isn't super aerodynamic, i.e. wind noise.

have fun,

floyd r.
