Aha, so that's what I did. 140-160

- “I don't know how you did it, but I would say your cam is off by 180 degrees”


I vaguely remember giving the timing gear one full rotation immediately after install to check for binding. Foolishly, I did not return it to the previous position after the check. So that's why the crankshaft pulley (and dizzy rotor) were off 180 degrees. I used the George Downs wire swap trick and that did the trick as the engine sputtered to life. I think I'll return the settings to their normal position when I upgrade the timing cover to one with a more modern seal. Many thanks to all as it really made my day to have the engine come back to life!
