I have no experience with the BW35, but I have dealt with a BW65 in a Jaguar XJ6. From what Derek UK says, it sounds like they are similar. With the shop manual directions we were able to adjust the bands on the BW65 when the Jag would only engage 3rd gear. After doing that the car went a couple hundred yards until it quit and would only go in reverse! A new (used) one was sourced for $250.
Anyways, what I'm getting at is that it may be worth some time and effort to service the transmission in the car already without resorting to an entire rebuild.
