shifter question 1800

Yes, when new, both notches were the same size, and the pins just fit with little play. What you have is very common with age and wear.

I have fixed my long shifters (same type of set-up) by sliding a drift pin over the shifter pins, trimming them to size, and then elongating the notches on the top cover to accept the extra thickness of the drift pins. I've done this on an M4 and M40 with good results.

I posted this poor quality photo of the repair years ago. I think you can see what I did though.
