740 Gear selector problem 700 1990

The pushbutton release on top of my 1990 740T gear selector has popped out stem and all. It looks like a some sort of split ring should be holding it in place. Has anyone fixed this problem before? And if so on a scale of 1-10 what is the difficulty of this fix? Thanks!
