No Start Problem 700

Connections on the battery look good but I haven't check the wires or connections on the starter. Why would I only get all the lights on the dash only once in a while if the switch wasn't bad?

This is an '88 and I think it's got those bogus vegetable oil insulated wires. I'll check the wires out.
