I did manage to get the codes cleared out the other day and after running it for the past couple of days, NO CODES!
After chatting with my Volvo guru he said exactly what you said about the ethanol added to the gas.
I still think there is a possibility of something amiss as my idle sometimes dips really low and at other times goes just over 1k rpm, but it is not a regular thing and self resolves. A few weeks ago it also stalled upon starting twice but self resolved after a few minutes. The guru's guess is the AMM is possibly having issues, which was one of the codes. He has a piece of test equipment that he can check it with if the code renews.
In the meantime I am going to treat Sven to a new set of wires as the ones on there have been in place for some time, maybe some plugs, current ones are 2 years+ old, a can of seafoam into the tank. Already put a new air filter (Mann) on last month. Coming due for an oil change too. All that and a good interior cleaning should make for a happy dog limo. I hope.
The local auto junk yard (pick&pull) has quite a few 740/940's in it so I may go poke around under the hood to see if any of the AMM's match up to mine and maybe look new(ish).
It will be a sad day when I have to retire Sven. A day I hope to keep way out in the future as I really enjoy the old dude.
