Sounds like you're losing vacuum to the vent control system. I think it's Swedish(?) law that requires the ventilation to default to "defrost" when vacuum is lost.

Take a look at the HVAC check valve in the hose that comes off the manifold. Give it a scrub in some soapy water and see if things improve.
