oh...

in that case, the problem is rather simple. You've got the wrong key.

On sedans of that era (or at least it's the case with our '82), the trunk key is different than the ignition key. It might do the glove box too, but the ignition key only opens the doors and operates the car.

That unlike my '84 *wagon* where the ignition key opens all doors including the rear hatch.
