Filling the holes correctly might be more expensive than replacing the trim with new. However I like the "shaved" look on cars, and if you do remove the trim find a good pinstriper and have a thin complementary/contrasting line painted on the ridge. I agree with George that otherwise it can look a bit unfinished otherwise.
