Intermittent warmup problem 700 1991

I have disconnected the knock sensor (on the driver's side of the block I think) on previous occasions and not seen any improvement. I've replaced a lot of parts since I last disconnected the knock sensor so I will try it again. Would disconnecting the knock sensor effectively disable it? The parts guy at Beachmont Volvo (800-255-3601) said he gets alot of calls for replacement crankshaft position sensors. Is it possible that Volvo has done something dumb like use a magnet material on the flywheel that doesn't hold its' magnetism? I have a scope and will try and have a look at the pulse comming off the crankshaft position sensor after I try your knock sensor idea. Thanks Jrip
