speed sensor 700 1987

I burned up my axle and have replaced it with one from a salvage yard. now my speedometer reads 60 mph when i am just roling, and at 55 mph ( i think ) it reads 120 mph.
The axle got so hot when it went out that the spedo quit working, the old sensor was totaly wasted and the wires look like they got very hot.
