The B230 crank sprocket has an integral key locking it to the shaft, and a "nub" that engages a slot on the rear pulley face (see picture).

The slot on back side of the sprocket is for the locating tab on the rear dished washer, which has a timing notch to align with a ridge on the seal carrier plate.

The sprocket "nub" can get sheared off if the pulley comes loose from insufficient torquing — 44ft lbs plus an additional 60° of bolt rotation.
